Hiking

Hikers can also ascend the lofty peaks of the Trinity Alps like the legendary Sawtooth Peak. Sawtooth Peak is over 8800-ft and is the fifth-highest peak in the Klamath Mountains.

The trail takes about 8 hours to complete and is challenging due to the steep gradient of the ascent. Camping overnight is also an option. Despite the physical demands of the trail, hikers earn memorable panoramas of the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area.

Fishing

Trinity County’s many lakes, rivers, and creeks are excellent places for fishing throughout the year. The Trinity River and its watershed are one of Trinity County’s prime fishing zones. There are 11 game fish species in the Trinity River, including:

There are countless fly-fishing spots in Trinity County’s alpine lakes and streams, where rainbow and brown trout abound in the crystalline waters. Fishers are kept busiest with the trout in summer.  

River-Rafting

Trinity County is an ideal location to go river-rafting. There are several tour companies taking visitors along the Trinity River.

The most thrilling section of the Trinity River flows from North Fork down to the village of Big Bar. This part of the river has a set of Class 2 and Class 3 three rapids near the ghost town of Helena. The rapids are called Pigeon Point Run and require an appropriate level of whitewater expertise to paddle safely.

Further down the river from Pigeon Point Run near the Cedar Flat Picnic Area are the infamous rapids of Burnt Ranch Gorge. The rapids are categorized as Class 5 and are extremely powerful. Burnt Ranch Gorge is reserved for kayakers with advanced skills and a preference for intense excitement.

Boating
